They call it the Luton Genting, although it’s actually in Dunstable, about 4 miles from the Luton G casino, Genting’s competitor. That’s 4 miles along the A505, a solid contender for the most depressing road in Britain, complete with crawling traffic and grim vistas to both sides. In fact as you travel from the Genting to Luton, you pass a sign for Luton with the slogan, “Shop Luton, home of the Mall”. Eh ? Having said that, it’s better than the slogan I once saw for Scunthorpe, “The Industrial Market Town”. Sounds delightful. Isn’t.
The site is on a small leisure park with a huge car park, home to a gym and interestingly a large Mecca Bingo (odd given that Mecca are owned by Rank, Genting’s main UK competitor). Genting have recently rebranded their estate, and it’s always amusing trying to spot bits they’ve missed – in fact on this site there are two car park signs that still refer to “Stanleys Casino”.
So, this is another casino with two licences, one being a small (about to get larger, by all accounts) slot and electronic roulette area off to the right of reception. I’d love to tell you how the games were, but I tried three and none of them would accept my notes – I wouldn’t mind, but they’d come from the casino’s own ATM!
The main casino is pretty small, and unusually is dominated by the poker area, which takes up half of the space and butts right up to the main gaming floor – normally casino management tend to keep the poker players in their own area due to noise and other distractions, although I suppose it helps in getting them to play table games in the breaks. There is also a comedy creaky floor, complete with parts that seem to buckle slightly when you walk across them – that’ll keep you on your diet track, when it feels like you’re going to bust through !
The slots offer is surprisingly good, with a few new IGT multigame terminals and mostly Gaminators the rest of the way, along with excellent Inspired Gaming Sabre terminals for electronic roulette. They also have a small restaurant area and bar, and all the usual games.
Overall it seems like a pretty small site catering for a very local player base. Their poker offer looks pretty good, with plenty of guaranteed prize pools, so if that’s your thing, give it a shot.
