Just outside of the centre of Stoke – not far at all from the existing Grosvenor casino – Genting have recently opened up a huge new casino. From the outside it doesn’t look all that beautiful, as it’s clad a little plainly, but inside there’s a lot to love.

There’s a porte cochere type thing out front for dropping off people out of the rain (which was persisting down on my visit – one word – bleak), the name for which I obviously looked for on Wikipedia. They were originally designed for a coach and horses, don’t you know !

Inside it’s a really beautiful design, much like many other new Genting sites like Sheffield and Southport, with lots of creams, warm timber looks and just the right amount of shiny fixtures and fittings. There are plenty of comfy places to sit and relax, and the usual top notch slots and Sabre electronic roulette terminals.

Over to your right as you enter is a large poker area, again very nicely fitted out, and on your left is the rather fancy restaurant, with a huge stage area and plenty of comfy booth seating around too. The restaurant was set for a huge hen party, so perhaps Genting Stoke wouldn’t have been the best spot for that particular Saturday night – depending of course on exactly what you are after on a Saturday night …

If I had one complaint it would be the entrance. For all the fact that it’s quite grand, it opens right onto the gaming floor and is quite large, and very open and glazed. This means that during the daytime it really bright on one end of the floor, which ruins the atmosphere a little bit, a bit like Grosvenor Newcastle.

That’s a minor grumble though, and all things considered it’s one of the best looking casinos in the UK – on the inside at least.
