The G casino is the biggest in Blackpool, and can be found in the “Sandcastle” building, next to South Pier – in fact the Sandcastle is signposted all the way out from the M55 motorway. As one of the first G casinos in the UK, the G has the usual features you would expect, from the pulsating – and slightly hypnotic – disco bar ceiling lights to the extremely loud cover bands on a weekend. In fact the whole business seems to be split into two, with hordes of party people on a weekend, but a much more restrained clientele during the week.

It’s a massive site, having been extended way into the back some time after the whole business was relocated from a small site in nearby Station Road a few years back. All the space at the back is reserved for the poker offer, with a huge capacity and regular stops on the GUKPT – the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour – and capacity to put on quite a show when they need to. They have tournaments most nights, with cash games most of the time too – if you play a bit, be sure to drop by on a weekend, where the schlobbered state of some of the players leads to a delicate balance between how annoying they are, against how badly they play. Ipod recommended.

The gaming floor is one huge pit, with the usual games represented. They are quite big on new games at the G, and currently feature “Free Bet Blackjack”, a funky number where the house pays for your splits and doubles – well worth taking a look at.

The food offer is standard G fare, simple food well presented – about as good as you can get with a de-skilled catering operation. They’re also pretty innovative with their promotions, with recent ones featuring a boxing ring in the bar, and even a modelling competition.

Overall, a pretty standard membership only G offer, with plenty of onsite car parking (which often fills up – but there is street parking free at night nearby). Don’t wander in there on a weekend expecting a peaceful punt, mind, especially in the summer.
