North East casinos
The North East has a decent selection of casino spots. The way we have listed the region, this includes Leeds and Bradford, which are well served with 5 casinos between them. The biggest was Alea, which was a bit dodgily located and has now closed, but leaves Napoleons and Grosvenor Westgate opposite each other in western Leeds, plus the Grosvenor in the centre. Out in Bradford you have a Grosvenor and another Napoleons. There will soon be a huge new addition in Leeds, with plans announced for a new 2005 Gambling Act semi-supercasino on the way.
The king of the traditional north east is obviously Newcastle, boasting the monster Aspers, arguably the one that started the trend of large scale, beautifully moodily lit gambling nightspots. They also have great G and Genting sites, although the now-closed Bannatynes casino is sadly missed (and if they’re still saying Duncan Bannatyne owns a casino on the intro to “Dragon’s Den” – he hasn’t for years and years, this was his only one).
Also in this region is Sheffield, home to an oldish G casino, two from hometown A&S Leisure, and the absolutely gorgeous Genting site.
You’ve also got your Grosvenor Sunderland and the Gala in Middlesbrough, not to mention the G in Stockton, all pleasant enough spots. Hull is also included in the region, and has a nice enough Napoleon’s, plus what was a pretty ratty old Gala, but has now been tidied up as it was bought by Grosvenor. Rounding out the lineup is the independent Opera House in Scarborough, along with the purely electronic Grosvenor casino in the same town, both well worth a look.
